Founded in September 1898 by pioneering spirits Henry C. Strong and Frederick C. Johnstone, Strong and Johnstone Co. began as a vital lifeline for miners across Southeast Alaska. Just two years later, we became Tongass Trading Company; a name that has stood strong for over 125 years.

From outfitting gold miners at the turn of the century to supplying halibut fishermen, local families, and the booming logging camps of the 20th century, we’ve grown alongside Alaska’s ever-changing frontier.
